Description
What is SS-31?
SS-31 (also known as Elamipretide, Bendavia, or MTP-131) is a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide with the sequence D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2. It belongs to the Szeto-Schiller (SS) peptide family, designed to selectively concentrate in the inner mitochondrial membrane by binding to cardiolipin, a phospholipid critical for mitochondrial structure and function.
Research Applications
SS-31 has been extensively studied in preclinical models for its ability to stabilize mitochondrial cristae structure, optimize electron transport chain efficiency, and reduce the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Research publications have explored its potential in models of cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury, age-related mitochondrial dysfunction, kidney disease, and neurodegenerative conditions.
Product Details
Each vial contains 10mg of >98% pure, lyophilized SS-31 peptide manufactured in a GMP-compliant facility. The tetrapeptide features a modified amino acid (2′,6′-dimethyltyrosine, or Dmt) that contributes to its unique mitochondrial targeting properties.
Storage
Store lyophilized powder at -20°C. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2-8°C and use within 30 days. Protect from light and repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
